What made the difference this time around was a stance that rejects dipping the proverbial toe in the water and instead just dives in. As one that, when given time, will dedicate a good amount of effort to research and analysis, this approach was novel.
Anyone that has looked into starting a new blog will note that nearly all advice on the subject recommends focusing on a specific niche with a defined target audience. What’s more, writers are encouraged to center their work on topics they know or experiences they actually had. All of this, while very sound advice, often proved to be enough of an obstacle to prevent my taking the leap. I found it difficult to settle on a single subject and equally challenging to determine who I really wished to speak to. So, in defiance of this conventional wisdom, I am here to introduce myself and NovelSpin.com with an admitted lack of a truly defined niche and subsequent target audience.
My name is John Cassidy and I have spent the last 20 years of my career within the digital marketing arena. This experience does pre-date the dot-com crash of the early 2000’s and carried through a great number of significant developments over the years. I have worked across numerous websites, industries and functional areas including media, management, SEO, content development and more but have chosen to forego settling on any specific digital marketing topic and instead look to broaden potential ideas for discussion into other areas as well.
In short, I present NovelSpin.com in its infancy as an outlet for my passion to discover insights and explore new connections that lead to a deeper understanding as to why things work rather than just how. Recognizing the philosophical overtone of such a statement, I also wish to qualify it with my desire to share thoughts and ideas that may be applied in a practical and useful manner as much as possible. While many themes will be derived from my professional experience in digital marketing, I leave open the possibility to discuss other subjects such as leadership, history and personal growth. I hope to add some personal color to my posts as well.
That said, I will move forward to see where this road will lead and end this brief introduction with an expression of my gratitude and a request.
